Hoping to win a huge jackpot, the friends pool their money and buy dozens of lottery tickets, but they argue over how to spend the fortune if they win, and Monica irritates everyone else by buying tickets just for her and Chandler. Exasperated, Phoebe takes the bowl of everyones tickets and threatens to throw it off the balcony. The others make up, but a pigeon startles Phoebe.

A visit to the set of a soap opera inspires Rachel to dream of a romantic encounter with Joey, and Chandler must take Ross on a weekend getaway after Monica is unable to take time off from work.

Ross is excited when he meets a stunning palaeontology professor, but when he takes her to Joeys rooftop party for the actors soap-opera co-stars, she intimidates him with her impressive list of former boyfriends. Meanwhile, Rachel and an intoxicated Monica make fools of themselves at the party chasing after the hunky daytime actors.

Monica and Chandler have an embarrassing encounter with an old acquaintance at a fertility clinic, Ross plays Cyrano to help Joey woo a professor, and Rachel sneaks into a spa for a massage hoping Phoebe wont find out.

The gang heads to Barbados for a palaeontology convention where Ross is the keynote speaker. Rachel harbours steamy thoughts about Joey, and Mike prepares to propose to Phoebe.

Ross drinks too much wine while dining with Rachel, Joey and Charlie. Elsewhere, Frank Jr cannot cope with his precocious triplets and pays Phoebe a visit.
